2005 01 24 Headwall Forms WorkOn Friday the 21st the headwall floor was poured. The concrete subcontractor got the forms built and poured this by about 3:15 or so, and then covered it. They diverted the stream until about 7, but the pulled the pumps out and left. Friday night was cold, and then on Saturday we got this: If you can imagine large lettering looping from the lower left to the upper right of this image, those letters would spell out "C R A P P Y". This was initially freezing drizzle, then sleet, then ice, then some snow, then more sleet. All of my favorite forms of precip. It was miserable. By the time it was over at 7 or 8 PM we had about an inch of frozen stuff on the ground. Ice, very crunchy snow.. On Monday morning a minimal crew showed up. I didn't expect anyone. The concrete sub pulled the blankets off the headwall floor but did not do much else since it was so icy. The contractor's workers spent a couple of hours chipping frozen mud off our remaining excavator. Here are a couple of shots of the headwall floor.
Here is a shot of the general scene .. frozen mud. Hammering frozen mud off the excavator tracks. That was about it for Monday. It was cold and icy.
